Minnesota Timberwolves will bring free agents Rudy Gay of Memphis and David Lee of New York in for visits this week.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves will bring free agents Rudy Gay of Memphis and David Lee of New York in for visits this week.
Team president David Kahn says Gay will come to the Twin Cities on Thursday and stay through Friday and Lee will arrive on Saturday and spend the day.
Shortly after the free agent market opened at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time on Thursday, Kahn called representatives for Gay and Lee and both accepted the invitations.
A source with knowledge of the discussions between the two sides said no financial parameters were discussed in the phone conversation. The Grizzlies can match any offer made by another team for Gay, but offers to restricted free agents are often loaded with terms that make it difficult for the incumbent team to match, such as making most of the first-year payment to a player due in a lump sum instead of spread out evenly through the season.
Gay is a restricted free agent, so the Grizzlies would have the right to match any offer made.
Kahn says the team is also "very close" to agreeing to a deal with Nikola Pekovic, the team's 2008 second-round draft pick who has been playing in Greece. No deal can be signed until July 8.
